Correction Policy
Errors are inevitable in publishing. The Correction Policy describes how reader-reported errors are surfaced, reviewed, and disclosed — and how methodology adjustments are versioned and changelogged.
How to report an error
Reader-reported errors can be submitted through the Contact page. Substantive submissions receive a response within five business days.
Review and disclosure
Substantive corrections — factual errors, miscited statistics, methodology mistakes — are reviewed by an editor not involved in the original publication. The correction is made visibly on the affected page with a date-stamped changelog entry.
Minor vs material corrections
Typo-level edits are made silently. Material corrections — anything that could change a reader's decision — carry a visible changelog entry and are summarized annually under Transparency.
- Minor: typo, grammar, link rot — silent fix
- Material: numeric error, factual mistake, methodology change — visible changelog
- Severe: incorrect recommendation or unsafe advice — visible changelog + notice at top of page
Methodology adjustments
Methodology changes are versioned under the Research Standards process. Major versions trigger a published changelog and a notice on the affected methodology page.
Reader credit
Substantive reader-reported corrections may be credited (with consent) under research disclosure.
Time-bounded transparency
Corrections remain on the affected page for at least 24 months. Beyond that, corrections may be moved to the annual Transparency Center summary.
